A trooper in Dutchess County on patrol in Pleasant Valley was stopped by a businesswoman at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 who reported fraudulent activity at her store and alleged that the suspects were still in the area.
According to police, the trooper canvassed the area and located their first suspect, New York resident Xavier Jackson, 28, in a different retailer on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley.
Police said that the investigation determined that Jackson had passed forged $100 bills at four businesses along with his accomplice, New York resident Shaman Smith, 28.
The forged bills were used at two businesses in LaGrange and two businesses in Pleasant Valley.
Jackson was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, and Smith was charged with conspiracy, all felonies. Both were released and scheduled to appear in Pleasant Valley Court on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
